広島平和記念資料館
原爆ドームそばには、原爆被災に関する資料が集められている広島平和記念資料館があります。被爆前と被爆後の広島の歴史的事実を踏ふまえた「広島の歩み」や、被爆者の遺品や写真などが展示されています。

原爆ドームの歴史
旧産業奨励館の残骸は、頂上の円蓋鉄骨の形から、いつしか市民から原爆ドームと呼ばれるようになりました。記念物として残すという考え方と、被爆の悲惨な思い出につながるということで取り壊すという二つの考え方がありました。
市街地の復興と共に、被爆建物が姿を消していく中で、原爆投下についてどう考えるか、被爆体験や肉親などの惨事をどう伝えるか、 核兵器をめぐる世界の情勢をどう考えるか等の議論と重なりをみせていきました。
